There are many variants of poker and Texas Hold 'em around the world, but for the most part, the rules are the same everywhere for this game. The basic rules we use for Texas Hold 'em in Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo are as follows:

The game of Texas Hold 'em starts with a round of betting. Before the game commences, the dealer or the button is determined. This is achieved by dealing each player one card each, the player with the highest card becomes the first dealer. A Small Blind and Big Blind are posted by the two players on the left of the dealer, which will kick-start the betting rounds.

Next, each player is dealt two hole cards, and another round of betting follows. The goal is to create the best five-card hand using the two hole cards, and five community cards that will be revealed later in the game. Once the betting round is complete, three community cards (called the flop) are revealed in the middle of the table, and another round of betting follows.

The fourth community card (called the turn) is revealed, and another betting round follows. Finally, the fifth and final community card (called the river) is revealed. Once that is done, a final round of betting follows. If there are still two or more players left, there is a showdown in which the player with the highest-ranking hand takes the pot.

At any point in the game, a player can fold, which means they forfeit their hand and can't win the pot. If one player remains after a betting round, then they win the pot without a showdown.

If the game ends with a tie, then the tiebreaker goes to the player who has the highest-ranking card in their hand. For instance, if two players have a straight but with different high cards, the player with the higher card wins.
